i love the library part:83847576785 (this one is kind of sad)

So this older man comes into the library to pick up a book we put on hold for him.  It’s a book on a battleship from the korean war.  We engage in light banter while I check out the book.  He then tells me why he was getting a book on the battleship.

“My grandkids are coming next week,” he says.

“I need to read this book before they get here.  You see, I was on that battleship and I need to learn what actually happened on that ship before they ask me about it.  I worked in the boiler room, and never actually saw the war. I didn’t even know what they were fighting about. But I can’t tell them that, they think their grandfather is a hero and i don’t want to disappoint them.

And with that he took his book and walked out.
